Lower House examines bill to regulate Paraguayan naturalization

The Migration Affairs and Development Committee of the Chamber of Deputies is studying a bill to regulate Articles 148 and 150 of the National Constitution on nationality by naturalization, but decided to seek legal consultations before issuing an opinion.

A bill regulating Paraguayan nationality by naturalization is under review in the Chamber of Deputies. The proposal seeks to establish requirements, judicial procedures, and grounds for acquiring and losing nationality by naturalization, with respect for due process and human rights.

The Migration Affairs and Development Committee examined the text, but before issuing an opinion, members decided to submit consultations to specialized legal bodies on the feasibility and scope of the bill. The aim is to gather more elements to inform the decision.

During the same session, a report was presented on the exceptional procedure implemented by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (Mitic) for Paraguayans residing in Spain. The initiative facilitates the creation of the Electronic Identity, needed to obtain the Paraguayan Judicial Background Certificate.
