A search was conducted in Module 7 of the Minga Guazú Penitentiary after an unauthorized drone was detected flying over the prison grounds, specifically above the maximum-security area housing high-profile inmates.
Rubén Peña, Director General of Penitentiary Establishments, confirmed that the device was spotted between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. the previous day, remaining in the area for approximately 25 to 30 minutes. The flight focused on the wings housing members linked to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) as well as Miguel Ángel Insfrán, known as "Tío Rico."
According to Peña, the search operation was prompted by the aerial incident and prior intelligence regarding suspicious behavior by inmates in that sector. The official reported that no contraband was found during the search. "This is a sign that we are improving our security system," he stated.
As of now, authorities have not identified the owner of the device. When asked about a possible link to the recent attempted attack on "Tío Rico," Peña clarified that this hypothesis is not being considered in the investigation.
"We are not working with that hypothesis; the drone was placed in these locations to gather information on the security system," the director asserted. Following the incident, internal controls were strengthened while investigations continue to determine the origin and purpose of the overflight.
