President Santiago Peña has signed a law eliminating the minimum 6% commission that airlines paid on each ticket sold in Paraguay. The measure, approved by Congress in April, aims to reduce operating costs and lower fares, while the government resumes talks with Gol to establish a direct Asunción-Miami flight.

Presidential Chief of Staff Javier Giménez said the executive analyzed granting a monthly subsidy of US$360,000 to Gol to operate a direct route between Paraguay and the United States, but deemed the cost unfeasible in the current "war economy" scenario.

The National Directorate of Civil Aviation (Dinac) confirmed that Gol Linhas Aéreas has reopened talks for the direct route between Asunción and Miami. Tuesday's meeting with the Chief of Staff of the Presidency, Javier Giménez, may define the next steps, including the issue of the subsidy demanded by the airline.
