The city of Hohenau, in the department of Itapúa, is preparing to open a Patagonian crayfish processing plant, with an investment of over US$43 million from South Atlantic Company S.A., linked to the Wofco group. The facility, which will process about 600 tons of seafood per year for the European market, is expected to generate 600 direct jobs. The raw material will come from Rawson, Argentina, and ANDE has already installed an electrical substation to reinforce power supply at the industrial park.
