The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence requires Paraguay to adopt more robust regulation, particularly regarding personal data protection, digital security, and the responsible use of new technologies. This assessment comes from cybersecurity expert Miguel Ángel Gaspar, who warned about the risks posed by platforms based on language models such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Grok, the latter powered by the social network X.
In an interview with Universo 970 AM radio, Gaspar explained that these platforms operate on enormous volumes of information and continue learning from user interactions. "The models train on our data, our behaviors, and everything we do on the internet," he stated. The expert warned about the risks associated with privacy and the handling of personal information, emphasizing that the country needs to move forward with clear regulatory frameworks that define how citizens' digital information is stored, protected, and used.
"The country must commit to digital sovereignty. We need to know how data is safeguarded and who is responsible for it," he declared. The remarks come amid talks about the sovereign artificial intelligence computing center project being promoted between Paraguay and Taiwan. For Gaspar, the agreement represents a strategic opportunity, though he insisted that any technological advancement must be accompanied by legal and technical safeguards to protect information.
The expert also drew attention to the social and educational impact of technology, especially among children and adolescents. According to him, the unchecked use of social media and cell phones at early ages leads to mental health problems, exposure of personal data, and risks of digital manipulation. "We believe the digital world is not real, and that is where the problem begins," he stated, noting that many parents expose their children's private information without grasping the consequences, while apps and platforms constantly collect behavioral data.
