Cybersecurity expert Miguel Ángel Gaspar warned about the critical state of digital security in Paraguay and advocated for the urgent adoption of measures to confront the growing risk of cyberattacks and digital espionage by foreign actors.
Gaspar highlighted that the lack of technological safeguards could even affect the attraction of investments, as investors seek legal and technological security. He insisted on the need to establish a mandatory regulatory framework to protect citizens, companies, and public institutions against digital threats.
As a basic measure, the expert recommended the use of robust passwords to reduce the risk of data breaches. He also mentioned corporate and government espionage operations attributed to countries such as China, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela.
Gaspar also questioned the installation of routers of Chinese origin by the country's main telecommunications operators in Paraguayan homes, arguing that the origin of this equipment should be part of the debate on national technological security.
Finally, the expert called for greater transparency regarding the digital infrastructure used in Paraguay and emphasized the need to advance towards a policy of digital sovereignty, essential for protecting strategic information and maintaining the confidence of potential investors.
