On Wednesday, he defeated Frenchman Yanis Ghazouani Durand 2–6, 7–6 (4), 7–6 (2) in a match lasting 2 hours and 33 minutes, decided by two tiebreaks. With the win, Escurra advanced to the round of 16 of the clay-court tournament.

Escurra, a member of Paraguay's Davis Cup team, began his campaign in the qualifying phase, overcoming Frenchmen Alexandre Vassard (7–5, 6–4) and Timothée Andriveau (6–2, 6–3). In the round of 16, he will face another Frenchman, Raphael Perot, who defeated compatriot Florent Lagarrigue 6–3, 6–3.
