The National Service for Quality and Animal Health (Senacsa) announced that Paraguay will host the 28th Conference of the Regional Commission of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OMSA) for the Americas, scheduled for November 2026. The event, organized by Senacsa, will receive representatives from all OMSA member countries in the Americas, as well as experts and authorities in animal health and public health.

The decision was made during the 92nd General Session of the OMSA World Assembly of Delegates, held last year in France. In a video presentation of the host country, the organization highlighted: “In the heart of America there is a country where nature, culture, and the work of its people shape its identity and move toward the future with determination.”

The president of Senacsa, José Carlos Martin, presented this week the progress in organizing the event and the institutional welcome video. The central objective is to strengthen regional cooperation, exchange experiences, and define technical recommendations for disease prevention and control.

In addition to technical sessions, the conference will serve as a space for regional decision-making and approval of recommendations. The choice of Paraguay as the host represents recognition of its health system and the country's role in the region's agricultural production.

Senacsa emphasized that Paraguay is recognized for guaranteeing the quality and traceability of animals, as well as the safety of products and by-products of animal origin, with a modern and reliable system. It also highlighted care for the environment and responsible production, investing in technological innovation and public-private partnerships.

Among the topics to be addressed are epidemiological surveillance, prevention of transboundary diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, strengthening veterinary services, biosecurity in livestock production, food safety, sustainability of production systems, and facilitation of international trade in animal products.
