The president of the Paraguayan Chamber of Supermarkets (Capasu), Gustavo Lezcano, stated that basic basket prices in Paraguay remain stable, with no signs of significant increases. In an interview on the program “Economía A 1000”, he highlighted that, despite expectations of a slight reduction with the falling dollar, consumers already find ways to save.
“Today on the shelves there are options to lower the cost of the basic basket. In oil, for example, there are 15 brands available,” Lezcano said. He emphasized that supermarkets act as a channel between suppliers and consumers, offering a wide variety of categories for free choice.
Lezcano explained that Argentine inflation directly impacts Paraguay, especially on imported products that previously had a price difference of up to 80% compared to local prices. This was compounded by the rise in meat prices. However, he noted that with the current dollar exchange rate, a larger reduction was expected, but there was no inflationary spike.
“There is stability in prices; no rebound or increase is observed,” concluded the supermarket sector representative.
