Barcelona's Sagrada Família basilica has announced that the Jesus Christ tower — the tallest and most symbolic point of Antoni Gaudí's design — will be blessed and inaugurated on 10 June. The ceremony will be presided over by Pope Leo XIV, who will lead the solemn blessing.
The central tower, 172.5 metres tall with 12 faces, began construction in October 2018 from a height of 85 metres. The elements were manufactured off-site and assembled in modules. The four-armed cross, clad in glass and white glazed ceramic, measures 17 metres in height and 13.5 metres in width. Its parts were produced during 2025 in Germany and Catalonia.
The sculpture Cordero de Dios (Agnus Dei) by artist Andrea Mastrovito will be installed on the upper arm of the cross, fulfilling Gaudí's wish to place the symbol at the centre of the cross. The completion of the Jesus Christ tower represents the core of the tower system envisioned by the Catalan architect.
