Lorenzo, an Italian known on TikTok as “Lorenzo en Py,” caused a stir by sharing his surprise at how Paraguay celebrates Mother’s Day. In a video titled “El día de la mamá en Paraguay es una fecha muy especial,” he said that while the date is also important in Italy, the South American country takes the celebration to “another level.”
“I was really surprised by how Mother’s Day is experienced here,” Lorenzo said. He noted that Paraguayan families plan days in advance, pack restaurants, and devote all their attention to mothers. “In Italy it’s also an important date, but nothing compared to what you experience here. Here you notice a much stronger respect and celebration of the mother figure,” he added.
The video sparked reactions from followers, who pointed out that the date coincides with Paraguay’s Independence Day (May 14 and 15), creating a double holiday. “The most important days in Paraguay are Caacupé and Mother’s Day,” one user commented. Another highlighted: “Here everything is an event. Independence Day and the next day you share with your mother. These are dates you celebrate no matter what.”
In other videos, Lorenzo also explained why he moved to Paraguay. He said he had been living in Australia, but after “they closed the door,” he had to choose between returning to Italy or starting over from scratch. He chose Paraguay in search of a quieter life. “Paraguay isn’t famous, but it has something special. Life is calm, people are kind, less chaos, more peace. Not everything is perfect, but here you live better, you enjoy more,” he stated.
