L'Étape Encarnación 2026 is projected to inject US$4 million into Itapúa's economy.

The L'Étape Encarnación 2026 by Tour de France cycling event, scheduled for May 31, is projected to generate an economic impact of between $3.5 million and $5 million for Itapúa's economy, with participation from athletes in Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Chile.

The organizers of L'Étape Encarnación 2026 by Tour de France project an economic impact of approximately US$4 million for the local economy. The world-class cycling event is scheduled for May 31 and is expected to bring together athletes from Paraguay and countries including Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Chile.

Víctor Heredia, a Mexican entrepreneur and athlete and co-founder of Rebelocity—the company responsible for introducing the Ironman and L'Étape by Tour de France brands to the country—stated that Itapúa's capital was chosen for its urban infrastructure, tourist appeal, and hotel capacity. According to him, this edition marks a turning point for Paraguayan cycling, allowing local athletes to experience an official Tour de France event without leaving national territory.

Spending projections prepared by the organizers indicate that accommodation for athletes and their companions is expected to generate around G8 billion (US$1.09 million). An additional G4.6 billion (US$620,000) is anticipated from food, transportation, and tourist activities. The total direct contribution from competitors and companions is estimated at G12.69 billion (US$1.7 million); when combined with investments in event operations, hiring of local services, logistics, staffing, and attracting additional visitors, the overall impact is projected to range between US$3.5 million and US$5 million.

"The Tour de France brings cyclists from around the world to our region. Every international athlete who travels to compete arrives with their family, their team, and plans for several days of tourism. This movement of people creates a real economic chain that benefits both Posadas and Encarnación. It is an opportunity the region cannot afford to miss," emphasized Heredia, co-director of Rebelocity.
