Paraguayan artist Carla Ascarza presents the exhibition "Ñande Sy e a poética do campo" starting this Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Galeria del Rey in Asunción, as part of the Noche de Galerías 2026 program. The show brings together paintings, graphite drawings, and an installation combining printed dresses with a GIF projection, exploring memory, domesticity, and the female figure in the Paraguayan countryside.
The works depict an anonymous woman with calloused hands and a serene expression, evoking the figure of the mother, grandmother, and ancestors. Ascarza uses domestic objects — such as iron pots, tin cups, and wooden chairs — to build a visual narrative about rural life and cultural heritage. The attire, with floral dresses and aprons, refers to the role historically assigned to women in the countryside.
The exhibition engages with the short story "De cuerpo presente" by Spanish writer Rafael Barrett and the book "Filosofía de la casa. El espacio doméstico y la felicidad" (2024) by Italian philosopher Emanuele Coccia. Ascarza proposes a reflection on domestic happiness and the intensity of relationships between people and the objects that inhabit the home.
"The home is an intensity that changes our way of being and that of everything that is part of its magical circle," writes Coccia, an idea echoed in the show. The artist also pays homage to the grandmother of the author of the introductory text, María Rosa Leiva, who still cooks in the iron pot inherited from her great-grandmother.
The exhibition will be open to the public until June 2026, with free admission.
