Paraguay Surpasses 800,000 Doses Applied in Flu Vaccination Campaign

Paraguay's Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare reported that over 806,000 doses of the influenza vaccine have been administered nationwide, with emphasis on protecting children, the elderly, and at-risk groups. The campaign continues with 1.5 million doses available, free of charge, at authorized vaccination centers.

Paraguay's Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, through the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI), announced that more than 806,275 doses of the influenza vaccine have been administered nationwide as of the reporting date. The campaign, which began in early autumn, aims to reduce hospitalizations and severe complications during the peak circulation of respiratory viruses.

The vaccine, free and available at all authorized centers, protects against Influenza A (H1N1), Influenza A (H3N2), and Influenza B strains. According to the PAI, 590,092 people under 50 were immunized, followed by 63,573 in the 50–59 age group and 152,610 aged 60 or older. Additionally, 18,842 doses of the pneumococcal vaccine were administered, protecting against bacteria that cause pneumonia and meningitis.

The country has 1.5 million doses of the influenza vaccine for this season, updated according to circulating strains. The PAI highlights the work of health teams in sanitary regions, hospitals, and family health units, which use outreach strategies and community campaigns to expand coverage.

Vaccination is considered the most effective tool to prevent severe flu cases, especially in children, older adults, pregnant women, and people with chronic diseases. The Ministry of Health reiterates its call for the population to complete the vaccination schedule before the seasonal peak.
