The Superior Electoral Court has ruled that mayors seeking reelection must resign by July 4, according to the electoral schedule for the October municipal elections. As a result, several mayors are already stepping down to focus on their campaigns.
In Capiatá, Mayor Laura Gamarra (ANR-HC) submitted her resignation to the Municipal Board, which appointed Francisco López (ANR) as interim mayor to complete the term. In Villa Elisa, Sergio Estigarribia (PLRA) also resigned to focus on his reelection bid, with councilmember Edilberto Carballo (PLRA) taking his place.
Meanwhile, in Villa del Rosario, Mayor Julián Barressi Mancía (ANR) submitted his resignation on Tuesday, pending approval by the Municipal Board and the appointment of his replacement. The municipal elections are scheduled for October 4.
