The official campaign period for the 2026 municipal elections began this Thursday, July 16, across Paraguay. The campaign, which follows the schedule set by the country's Superior Tribunal of Electoral Justice (TSJE), can run until 11:59 PM on October 1, when the pre-election silence period begins.
The campaign is governed by Article 290 of Law No. 7,135/23, which unified the previously separate deadlines for propaganda in public spaces and in traditional media such as radio and television. However, proselytizing activities on the internet and social media remain without specific regulation, creating a legal gap.
Simultaneously, the TSJE is maintaining its focus on political financing. This Friday, July 17, is the final deadline for the electoral tribunals of political parties to submit the Final Report of the National System for Political Financing (SINAFIP) to the body. This document details the compliance with the accountability of candidates and internal movements that participated in the party primaries held in July.
In the municipal elections on October 4, citizens in 263 Paraguayan districts will choose their next mayors and council members, who will serve terms from 2026 to 2031.
