Paraguay Invests in Airport System to Streamline and Strengthen Migration Control

In a meeting between the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the National Directorate of Migration, investments to modernize migration control were discussed, with emphasis on a new airport system promising greater interoperability with security platforms. In the first quarter of 2026, the country recorded 18,071 foreign residency applications, an 85% increase over the same period in 2025.

The migration flow in Paraguay continues to rise. On Monday, representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the National Directorate of Migration met to evaluate ongoing investments aimed at security and efficiency in migration processes.

Minister Oscar Lovera and Migration Director Jorge Kronawetter discussed the initiatives underway. Kronawetter highlighted that a new airport control system is being developed, designed to raise security standards and optimize the entry and exit of people from the country.

“This system will have a higher level of interoperability with other security platforms, which will strengthen migration controls and improve operational efficiency,” the director said.

Additionally, the investments also include modernizing the computer system to reduce response times for residency procedures. According to data from the National Directorate of Migration, Paraguay received 18,071 residency applications from foreign citizens in the first quarter of 2026, an 85% increase compared to 9,760 applications in the same period of 2025. This volume already equals 30% of all applications registered in the entire previous year, when 47,687 procedures were recorded — considered a record by the institution.
