Paraguay is discussing tourism cooperation agreements with the Bahamas and Türkiye, including destination promotion, visitor exchanges and technical training. The talks were led by Javier Ramírez, interim executive minister-secretary of Paraguay’s National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur), in meetings with diplomatic representatives of the two countries.
With Luis Oscar Boettner, the Bahamas’ honorary consul in Paraguay, Ramírez discussed strengthening tourism ties and possible actions to create opportunities for the sector. The areas discussed included promoting both destinations and diversifying Paraguay’s tourism offering.
At the meeting with Yavuz Kül, Türkiye’s ambassador to Paraguay, the focus was bilateral cooperation in tourism and cultural heritage. The meeting also addressed the upcoming inauguration of the second phase of the project to strengthen sustainable community tourism development in the Indigenous Mbya Guaraní Guavirami community.
The new phase provides for the implementation of a cultural tourism circuit connecting surrounding communities with the Jesuit Missions of Santísima Trinidad del Paraná and Jesús de Tavarangue. The heritage complex, to which the Mbya Guaraní Guavirami community is linked, forms part of the Serial World Heritage listing.
The partnership with Türkiye also includes a training program for Senatur technicians, to be developed by Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The planned topics are the digitization of tangible cultural assets in museums, sustainable tourism, the promotion and international positioning of tourism routes, Turkish-Islamic culture and civilizations, and the preservation and promotion of tangible cultural heritage.
The initiatives combine efforts to attract new visitor flows with the development of community tourism actions and technical cooperation in cultural heritage. The next phase of the Guavirami project and the circuit linked to the missions still depend on implementation of the announced actions.
