Preparations for the second edition of the WRC Rally del Paraguay 2026, scheduled for August 27-30 in Itapúa, have entered their final phase with a series of coordinated actions among public institutions. The goal is to ensure the safety and success of the event, which is projected to attract more than 400,000 spectators and generate economic activity exceeding $200 million.
The National Directorate of the Highway Patrol presented its operational road safety plan at an event held at the Paraguayan Olympic Committee. The plan involves deploying national inspectors to the country's main routes, with the mission of harmonizing regular traffic with the passage of competition vehicles. Coverage will focus on strategic points along highways PY01 (Asunción-Encarnación section), PY06 (between Encarnación and Minga Guazú) and a section of PY08, which connects Bella Vista to Coronel Bogado. The institution stated it will provide all necessary human and logistical resources, replicating the successful scheme from the previous edition, in which Paraguay was distinguished with the Best Rally in the World award.
Simultaneously, a training event, named Rally Weekend, brought together representatives from the Armed Forces, National Police, Public Ministry, Fire Department, Highway Patrol, Ministry of Public Health, and the Local Organizing Committee. The first day, on Friday, was dedicated to inter-institutional coordination, with a review of security protocols, traffic control, health assistance, and emergency response. Theoretical training on 4x4 vehicle driving for operational teams was also conducted.
On Saturday, the training was directed at the guardarrallies, the volunteers who will work at strategic points along the race stages. Hundreds of participants received instructions on safety, crowd control, start and finish procedures, operation of the safety caravan, and the use of communication radios. Paraguayan drivers Diego Domínguez and Alejandro Galanti participated in the training, sharing experiences and emphasizing the crucial importance of these volunteers' work for the safety of the competition.
With these actions, the organization aims to consolidate the operational infrastructure to host one of the main events on the world rally calendar, whose broadcast will reach more than one hundred countries.
