Paraguay has opened its first Robotic Surgery Training Center at the University Hospital of the Catholic University of Our Lady of the Assumption in Asunción. The facility was established to train professionals, conduct research and develop surgical techniques using the South Korean-made REVO-i robotic system.
Information about the initiative was provided by the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare. The center was authorized by the Catholic University’s Faculty of Health Sciences in partnership with Droguepar S. A. Project organizers say it is currently the only training center in the region equipped with this technology.
Cooperation between Paraguay and South Korea is one of the project’s main pillars. The goal is to attract Paraguayan surgeons and surgeons from other Latin American countries and position Paraguay as a regional training center for robotic surgery.
At the opening, Health Minister Isaías Fretes said the initiative could expand training for specialists from Paraguay and Latin America. He argued that the adoption of technology must be accompanied by preparation and medical judgment, stressing that robotic surgery expands the possibilities for intervention without replacing professionals’ expertise.
Droguepar president Bernardo Barreto highlighted the investment and collaboration between the company and the university. Also taking part in the event were authorities from the Faculty of Health Sciences, South Korean diplomatic representatives, members of the Social Security Institute (IPS), Paraguay’s social security and public health institution, as well as faculty members and students.
