The Paraguayan government brought to Madrid, Spain, the short film “El precio del pasaje,” an initiative of the Ministry of Childhood and Adolescence to strengthen the fight against human trafficking and the protection of children and adolescents. The production, funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), was screened at an event chaired by Minister Walter Gutiérrez, who emphasized the government's ongoing effort to tackle the scourge.
“Every investment in prevention and awareness has a direct impact on protecting lives,” Gutiérrez said, stressing that the fight against exploitation and abuse of minors is a national priority driven by President Santiago Peña and the first lady. After the screening, a discussion with attendees delved into the scope of public policies implemented in recent years and progress in reducing cases of child sexual abuse.
The minister, however, insisted that the challenge remains as long as there are victims, making it essential to strengthen prevention actions and international coordination. The event was attended by Paraguay's ambassador to Spain, Justo Apodaca; the consul general in Madrid, René Castillo Ruiz; the deputy minister for Comprehensive Protection of Children's Rights, Eduardo Escobar Said; and the director of Cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean at AECID, Jorge Mijangos, along with representatives of social organizations, media, and the Paraguayan community in Spain.
With this initiative, Paraguay seeks to spread its message beyond borders, consolidating strategic alliances and promoting greater global awareness of human trafficking, one of the most serious crimes affecting human dignity.
