A total of 52 people have transited through Paraguay under the Safe Third Country Agreement signed with the United States, as reported by the National Directorate of Migration (DNM). The fourth group, consisting of 14 migrants, was repatriated to their countries of origin on Thursday and Friday, August 6 and 7.
The citizens, all adults who were in Paraguay under the temporary stay regime, returned to Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. The operation was conducted in accordance with Paraguayan administrative procedures and migration legislation.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) provided logistical support and coordinated the operation, ensuring that the return was carried out safely and in an orderly manner. This was the fourth group to be repatriated since the agreement began: the first had 16 people, the second 10, and the third 12.
The agreement allows asylum seekers who are in the United States to submit their protection applications in Paraguay, with the aim of sharing responsibility for managing irregular immigration and curbing abuses of the asylum system.
