Paraguay reports 1,338 exit-denial cases in migration controls

According to a report by Paraguay’s National Directorate of Migration (DNM), 2,425 security operations were carried out at borders and airports during the first half of 2026. The actions were part of an effort to strengthen security at border access points.

The report says the procedures identified document fraud, identity theft, individuals wanted by national and international authorities, attempts to leave the country irregularly, and foreign nationals who did not meet legal entry requirements. It recorded 1,338 exit-denial cases, primarily due to a lack of travel documents, missing authorizations for minors, and court orders.

The report also notes 867 foreign nationals denied entry for failing to meet legal entry conditions, in addition to 122 expulsions under Migration Law No. 6984/22. There were also 73 handover procedures and 25 extraditions coordinated with national and international bodies.

According to the report, one case involved an Afghan citizen who attempted to enter Paraguay using a Canadian passport belonging to another person. It also says individuals wanted by international authorities were identified, including a Peruvian with an Interpol Red Notice in connection with a suspected case of international drug trafficking.

Venezuela led the list of entry denials with 299 cases, followed by Brazil (201) and Argentina (149). The report says controls during international sporting events resulted in fans being denied entry for failing to comply with established rules, including 25 Argentines at the Puerto Falcón-Clorinda crossing and 11 Colombian fans of the Junior de Barranquilla club.
