Paraguayan national team goalkeeper Orlando Gill was greeted with a standing ovation by students at the Colegio Internacional de Asunción on Wednesday. The visit took place at the institution's sports complex, where students, many wearing the Albirroja jersey, presented the athlete with posters, drawings, and thank-you letters for his performance at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Gill, voted the best player of the match against France in the round of 16, interacted with the school community, signed autographs, took photos, and offered words of motivation. The school's administration described the encounter as "memorable" and highlighted the students' emotion at meeting the national idol up close. This was one of the goalkeeper's first public appearances after his return to the country, following a visit to the Acosta Ñu General Pediatric Hospital on Tuesday.
The goalkeeper's standout performance on the world stage has sparked interest from European clubs. According to transfer market information, Gill's representatives will travel to Spain soon for formal meetings with LaLiga clubs. His current club, San Lorenzo de Almagro, is said to have set an asking price of around 7 million dollars. Italy's Torino and England's Manchester United are also mentioned as possible destinations for the 26-year-old goalkeeper.
