The deal happened because the athlete and his representative accepted the French club's proposal, which offered a permanent transfer, while the Italian team proposed a loan with an option to buy.
As reported by Spanish journalist Andrés Onrubia, Gill prioritized Lille's offer because it was a permanent sale. Monza had presented an offer of 4.5 million euros for 50% of the player's economic rights, which belong to San Lorenzo. Lille, according to the Paraguayan press, initially offered 4 million dollars for 100% of his transfer rights, a value that did not please the Argentine club.
Lille guaranteed Gill the opportunity to compete for the starting position immediately with Turkish goalkeeper Berke Özer, as reported by journalist Marcos Durán. The final transaction value was not disclosed, but the permanent transfer structure was decisive for the agreement.
Gill was one of the revelations of the Paraguayan national team at the 2026 World Cup, attracting interest from European clubs. San Lorenzo holds 50% of his rights and had a release clause of around 7 million dollars, but the proximity of the transfer window closing influenced the decision.
In another market move, Porto Alegre's Internacional announced the signing of forward Tonny Sanabria, formerly of Cremonese.
