President Santiago Peña will present his third management report to the Board of Directors of the Asociación Nacional Republicana (ANR) next Wednesday, June 17, at 5:30 p.m., in an extraordinary session called by the head of the Colorado Party and former president of the Republic, Horacio Cartes. The meeting will be held both in person and virtually at the party headquarters.
Peña will attend accompanied by his ministers from the Executive Branch to showcase the flagship programs promoted by the government, as he did last year when he received unanimous support from the Board members. The accountability report before the ANR precedes the constitutional report scheduled for July 1, when the president must appear before the National Congress, as established by articles 202 and 238 of the Constitution.
This practice of presenting the report first to the party and then to the Legislature has been followed since 2024, when Peña took office. This sequence highlights the ANR's significant role in Paraguayan politics and the party's influence over government leadership, which can impact political stability and public policy decisions in the country.
Peña, who was affiliated with the PLRA until October 2016 and hurriedly joined the ANR during a Colorado convention when he was at risk of being removed from his position as Minister of Finance, has recently shown strong alignment with coloradismo and with Cartes, leader of the Honor Colorado movement and his political mentor.
