The Municipality of Ciudad del Este has issued a tender for the revitalization of three of the city's main public spaces — Parque Alejo García (popularly known as the former airport), Parque Agustín Van Aaken, and Parque Chino — in an urban transformation project requiring an investment of over G. 64.8 billion, funded entirely by the municipality's own resources.
The largest share of the budget, G. 51,772,443,665, will go to Parque Alejo García. Parque Van Aaken will receive G. 7,656,200,503, while Parque Chino will see an intervention with an estimated budget of G. 5,385,988,145.
The project, officially presented at Parque Alejo García itself, envisions transforming the three parks into modern recreation centers, social gathering spaces, and tourist attractions for the capital of Alto Paraná. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Ciudad del Este's tourism profile — a city historically known for its commercial activity but now seeking to expand its leisure offerings for domestic and international visitors.
Parque Alejo García will be the flagship of the intervention, drawing inspiration from classical European gardens. The heart of the space will be a large pedestrian esplanade with symmetrical pathways, surrounded by ornamental gardens, sculptures, and water fountains. The project includes columns, porticoes, and pergolas in a classical style, as well as a large multi-tiered ornamental fountain crowned by a female sculpture.
One of the most striking features will be the installation of a monument featuring an aircraft elevated above a sculptural structure, paying tribute to the former Alejo García Airport and preserving the site's historical memory. The plan also includes the restoration of existing green areas, with flower gardens, ornamental shrubs, trees, and shaded spaces.
Another highlight is the complete renovation of the skate park at Parque Alejo García, which will be upgraded with infrastructure adapted to competitive standards, enabling tournaments and events organized by the Alto Paraná Skateboard Association.
Following the official publication of the tender notice on the DNIT portal, the bidding process is expected to select the companies responsible for the works. If carried out within the planned timelines, the project will mark a turning point in the recovery of the city's public spaces, investing in modern infrastructure that combines recreation, sports, social interaction, and urban development.
