Miguel Prieto, former mayor of Ciudad del Este and a 2028 presidential hopeful for Paraguay, promised that if elected, Paraguayans will have medical care and medicines available in hospitals all 365 days of the year. In a speech during a tour of Capitán Meza in the Itapúa department, Prieto also guaranteed decent salaries for doctors, police officers, and teachers.
The leader of the Yo Creo movement warned that the Colorado Party (ANR) intends to pressure the judicial system to imprison him and disqualify his candidacy, with a hearing scheduled for August 31. Prieto stated he does not fear imprisonment and denounced that the judiciary is being manipulated by politicians to impede his electoral campaign.
Furthermore, Prieto mentioned he fears that sectors of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA) are preparing an "Efrainazo 2.0" – a reference to Efraín Alegre, the liberal presidential candidate in several elections – in which they would win the opposition primaries only to later, allegedly, facilitate a Colorado Party victory in the 2028 general elections.
Prieto also criticized the centralization of resources in Asunción and promised that each department will keep the revenue it generates, ensuring local investments. Currently, he is a candidate for city council in Ciudad del Este for the Yo Creo party.
