The Board of the Social Insurance Institute (IPS) approved, in a session held on Tuesday, the award of the public tender for the acquisition of 12 parenteral solution items. The final amount came to G. 17,018,097,750, a reduction of more than G. 15 billion compared to the initial amount of G. 32,125,942,700.
Among the products with the greatest savings are isotonic saline solutions, such as 0.9% Sodium Chloride, which saw reductions of up to 48% off the reference price. These supplies are in high demand in the hospital system, and small variations in unit costs generate significant economic impacts.
The positive results stem from transparency, predictability, and effective competition in the public procurement process. Clear rules and evaluations based on objective criteria strengthened the confidence of participating companies and encouraged more competitive bids.
On Monday, the IPS announced the cleanup of its medication list: of the 4,000 items reviewed, 817 will be eliminated because they are no longer used, although they continued to be purchased. An audit of the institution's properties and medication and supply inventories was also announced.
