The Public Prosecutor's Office of Paraguay has opened a criminal investigation to determine the destruction and looting of state property in a building located near the Palace of Justice in Asunción. The case was assigned by lottery to the Neighborhood Penal Unit No. 3, under the responsibility of prosecutor Andrea Vera Aldana.
During a technical inspection, representatives from the Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the building, which historically housed operational workshops of the National Police, suffered extensive damage. Zinc roof tiles, shed structures, gates, windows, and metal frames were removed without authorization, reducing much of the facility to ruins and causing severe damage to public property.
The building has been documented as belonging to the Public Prosecutor's Office since 2003 and was in the process of a formal transfer of possession. The situation gained relevance because the vandalism occurred while the location was still being used by the National Police, which maintained active personnel on-site for its custody.
The initial steps will include the collection of evidence, photographic documentation, and an economic assessment of the damages. The prosecution will also take statements from the personnel assigned to guard the premises to determine administrative and criminal responsibilities, as well as to identify the alleged material and intellectual perpetrators of the crime.
