The cold wave hitting Paraguay shows no signs of easing. The Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) reports that this Tuesday, May 19, will be another day of low temperatures across the country. Lows are expected to reach 6°C in some locations, while highs will not exceed 20°C.
In Asunción, the forecast low is 9°C and the high is 19°C. In cities such as Villarrica, Coronel Oviedo, Caazapá, Encarnación, San Juan Bautista, and Pilar, thermometers may register 7°C in the morning. In the Chaco, the expected high is 20°C. The sky will remain partly cloudy, with decreasing cloud cover in the center, south, and east of the Eastern region. Winds blow from the south and southeast, and no rain or storms are forecast.
The cold is expected to remain stable at least until Thursday, according to the DMH's extended forecast. In light of the low temperatures, the National Emergency Secretariat (SEN) has reactivated the Jaho'i operation, which provides shelter to homeless people whenever the temperature drops to 10°C or below.
