SENAD finds medicines in basement during operation targeting suspected irregular sales at Mercado 4

The National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD) carried out three simultaneous search warrants on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Mercado 4 in Asunción to investigate suspected irregular sales of controlled medicines and contraband products.

The operation, known as Operation JEOG, targeted the El Amigo 1 and El Amigo 2 pharmacies and a residence linked to Won Hon Hwang, identified in the investigation as the establishments’ owner and the main target of the procedure. He had not been located as of the latest update.

At the house, agents found a basement that was apparently being used as a storage area. An undisclosed quantity of different types of medicines was found and will undergo inventory, technical analysis and document checks. The investigation is expected to verify the products’ origin, their legal status and whether they had been declared and registered with the competent authorities.

The operation is being conducted by SENAD’s Directorate of Registration and Inspection, with oversight from the Public Prosecutor’s Office and coordination by prosecutor Juan Sandoval. The work includes inspecting the properties, identifying the medicines and collecting evidence.

The information released so far describes suspected irregular sales. The available updates do not confirm that the products were illegally sourced or that those responsible have been formally charged. The results of the forensic examination and administrative checks are expected to determine the scope of the investigation.

The two available reports relay the same ongoing official operation. No independent corroboration or final findings on the products’ origin, the quantity found or any potential charges are available at this stage.
