Agents from the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (Senad), through its Urban Operations Directorate, seized 62.6 grams of cocaine base, known as crack, during an operation at a residence in Remansito, Villa Hayes, in the Presidente Hayes department. Authorities estimated the amount at more than 420 doses.
The operation took place on September 9, 2026, and targeted a property identified as a possible drug distribution site. Cash, mainly in small-denomination bills, and a cellphone were also collected and became part of the investigation.
During the execution of the court order, Liz de los Ángeles Ortigoza Arzamendia, 24, was detained. She was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office, while the investigation continues to clarify responsibility for the property and any distribution network.
The operation was coordinated by prosecutor Norma Rocío Paredes of the Specialized Anti-Narcotics Unit in the Presidente Hayes department. Senad said the property was frequented for much of the day by adolescents and young people with drug-use problems.
The seizure, according to those responsible for the operation, interrupts the substance's immediate availability on the local market. The information that the residence operated as a site of small-scale drug dealing and was frequented by young people, however, remains part of the information gathered in the investigation and does not, by itself, amount to a conviction.
Villa Hayes is in the Paraguayan Chaco, west of Asunción, and is the capital of Presidente Hayes. In Paraguay's system, Senad is responsible for combating drug trafficking, while the Public Prosecutor's Office conducts the criminal investigation and brings the case before the courts.
