Senator Lilian Samaniego defended a bill that proposes mandatory vehicle technical inspection in all municipalities of Paraguay. The lawmaker criticized the current concentration of verification centers, which forces drivers from some regions to travel to other cities to regularize their vehicles' status.
As an example, Samaniego cited the situation in the Alto Paraná department, where residents of Ciudad del Este need to travel to Caaguazú to undergo the inspection. She stated that the shortage of inspection stations is not due to safety or infrastructure criteria, but to a scheme of concentrated benefits, allowing vehicles in deficient condition to circulate with irregular documentation.
The senator linked the problem to recent accidents, such as a truck in Pedrozo that lost its brakes despite having its documentation up to date. She urged authorities to investigate who granted the authorization to the vehicle involved in the incident.
The bill, which has been under consideration for nearly two years, seeks to decentralize vehicle control and establish inspection workshops in all cities of the country, with the objective of universalizing the technical requirement and preventing traffic tragedies.
