Son of former deputy Perla de Vázquez arrested on suspicion of leading cocaine trafficking ring in Santaní

Son of former Paraguayan congresswoman Perla de Vázquez arrested in San Estanislao with cocaine, marijuana, and a weapon on suspicion of leading a drug trafficking ring in the region.

The National Police Anti-Drug Department arrested 32-year-old José Emilio Vázquez Acosta, son of former congresswoman Perla de Vázquez, on Tuesday during a search warrant in San Estanislao, in the department of San Pedro.

Along with Vázquez Acosta, agents detained 26-year-old Esteban Darío Benítez Armoa. Both are suspected of leading a cocaine distribution ring in the lower part of the city.

The operation was carried out at a residence in the Mongelós neighborhood and resulted in the seizure of cocaine hydrochloride, marijuana, a firearm, vehicles, cell phones, cash, two precision scales, and various documents.

The procedure was conducted based on intelligence information and extensive police surveillance work. The case is being handled by prosecutor Jorge Isaak Encina Alder, of the San Pedro Specialized Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking.

Perla de Vázquez is a prominent Colorado Party figure in the region. Her son had already been indicted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in 2022 for misappropriation, criminal association, and reduction, in a case that also involved one of his brothers and two other men.
