The Consulate of the Kingdom of Thailand in Paraguay was officially reopened in Asunción, with the presentation of businessman Jorge Salomón Jure Vallejos as the new honorary consul for the Asian country. The ceremony, which included a toast, took place in the Founders' Hall of the Club Centenario and brought together authorities from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), members of the diplomatic and consular corps, as well as family and friends of the new consul.
The Ambassador of Thailand in Buenos Aires, concurrently accredited to Paraguay, Krit Tankanarat, noted that the consular post had been vacant since 2017. "I am very pleased that, after a few years, Thailand once again has such a capable and respected representative in Paraguay," the diplomat stated. He added that relations between the two nations have been cordial for a long time, but that there is still much to do to bring them even closer.
In his speech, Jorge Salomón Jure Vallejos began with a greeting in Thai, "Sawasdee khráp" (hello), and thanked the Thai government for its trust. He said the position represents "a great honor and a deep commitment" and that his work goes beyond consular assistance, acting as a facilitator of opportunities. "I will boost commercial relations and exchange between the two countries, which will further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation," he declared.
Among the guests listed for the event were the Vice Minister of Economic Relations and Integration of the MRE, Patricia Frutos Ruiz; the Vice Minister of Administration and Technical Affairs of the Chancellery, Miguel Ángel Aranda; and Walter Ismachowiez, as well as the Ambassador of Japan, Katsumi Itagaki. Also present were members of the Association of the Consular Corps of Paraguay and the Association of Ladies and Spouses of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps of Paraguay.
