Cerro Porteño achieved a historic victory on Wednesday by defeating Palmeiras 1-0 at Allianz Parque in the penultimate round of Group F of the 2026 Copa Libertadores. With the result, the Paraguayan team mathematically guaranteed its place in the round of 16, becoming the group's sole leader.
Palmeiras started pressing, creating clear chances in the first minutes. Goalkeeper Alexis Martín Arias held off the initial momentum with decisive saves. Gradually, the Ciclón adjusted tactically, neutralized the opponent's attacks, and began to control the game, even with less possession.
The winning goal came early in the second half. Jonatan Torres opened up on the right for Fabricio Domínguez, who crossed low into the area. Pablo Vegetti, with the inside of his right foot, deflected the ball into the back of the net, leaving the Palmeiras goalkeeper no chance.
