A multiple-vehicle accident occurred around 10 a.m. on BR-277 highway, km 729, in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, just over a kilometer from the Friendship Bridge. Two long-distance buses with Paraguayan plates, operated by IV Turismo and Yacyretá, were carrying Cerro Porteño fans returning from São Paulo after the classic match against Palmeiras in the Copa Libertadores.

One of the vehicles lost its braking system in dense fog and collided with two Renault Kwid cars and a Ford Fiesta, triggering a domino effect that also involved the second bus. The impact was strong enough to trap one of the drivers inside the cabin, requiring rescue by firefighters.

Both drivers were rescued by the Federal Highway Police and taken to Foz do Iguaçu Municipal Hospital, where they were evaluated and released with minor injuries. None of the more than 100 fans – 60 on one bus and 46 on the other – suffered serious injuries.

After the accident, the passengers crossed the Friendship Bridge on foot toward Ciudad del Este, where they were assisted by Cerro Porteño officials. The club, through executive Alfredo Mongelós, confirmed that all fans returned safely to Asunción.

The road was fully closed until 11 a.m. for vehicle removal and rescue work. Later, only one lane of the highway was reopened, allowing normal traffic flow between Brazil and Paraguay.
