Aliases reach 5.35 million in Paraguay as QR Hub expansion remains planned

Alias registrations in Paraguay reached 5,355,557 in July 2026, up 54% in 12 months. Separately, information about QR Hub describes plans to expand interoperable payments, while the available material does not establish how much of the Alias growth has translated into actual merchant use.

The number of Alias identifiers registered in Paraguay’s Payments System reached 5,355,557 in July 2026, up 54% in 12 months, according to data from the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP). A total of 1,877,886 registrations were added since July 2025, when there were 3,477,671.

Alias enables transfers using information simpler than a full account number, such as an identity card number, mobile phone number or email address. The increase shows the expansion of this mechanism, but it does not by itself establish the level of actual payment use or merchant acceptance.

The identity card remains the main identifier, with 2,987,397 registrations, or 55.8% of the total. The volume grew 41.8% in one year. Mobile phone numbers came next, with 1,827,466 registrations and growth of 71.6%; together, the two formats account for about 89.9% of Aliases.

Email accounted for 457,977 registrations, up 77.6% year on year, while identifiers linked to the Single Taxpayer Registry (RUC) reached 81,758, an increase of 72.8%. Codes for non-residents totaled 958, and there was one registration associated with a permanent residence card.

The percentage growth rate declined from the previous period, when Aliases had grown 81.5% between July 2024 and July 2025. Even so, the expansion in absolute numbers was greater: 1,877,886 new registrations in the latest interval, compared with 1,561,375 in the previous one. Since August 2023, when the series began with 380,726 identifiers, the stock has multiplied more than 14-fold.

Between January and July 2026, 1,073,845 Aliases were added, a 25.1% increase over the 4,281,712 registered in December 2025. The result exceeded by 98,203 registrations the increase recorded during the same period in 2025.

Information about QR Hub describes a planned interoperable platform for payments using QR SIP. The proposal would allow banks, finance companies, fintechs and other authorized providers to offer compatible solutions so customers could pay merchants directly from their accounts, without relying on closed networks.

According to that information, QR SIP would complement Alias. The fee charged to merchants would be capped at 1.5% of the transaction value and could be lower by commercial agreement. Plans for contactless payments using NFC are also described. These elements should be treated as plans or announced rules, rather than established outcomes.

Alias registration growth and QR acceptance among merchants are separate dimensions. The available data support the increase in identifiers, while the QR Hub material describes planned features; based on the supplied excerpts, it remains unknown how many merchants have adopted QR Hub and what the actual transaction volume is.
