A group of amateur anglers from Alto Paraná caught an approximately 90-kilogram freshwater stingray in the Paraguay River, in the Posadas del Tebicuary area, Mburica rural locality, in the Tacuaras district of the Ñeembucú department.
The fishing trip took place during an excursion that continued along the river to Las Hermanas Creek. The visitors were accompanied by a local guide who knew the fishing spots. After waiting for hours, the group managed to pull the animal from the water.
The stingray’s weight required help from local guides to transport it to the shore. The anglers celebrated the catch after traveling from Alto Paraná to spend several days in the area and seek large specimens.
The freshwater stingray is a cartilaginous fish with a flattened body. Some species inhabit the large rivers of the Paraguay and Paraná basins.
The Ñeembucú territory is surrounded by the Paraguay, Paraná and Tebicuary rivers and also has waterways such as the Ñeembucú, Yacaré, Montuoso and Las Hermanas.
