The Municipal Board of Asunción approved the financial statement for the 2025 fiscal year with 13 votes in favor and 10 against. The document covers part of the administration of former mayor Óscar "Nenecho" Rodríguez and the current municipal chief, Luis Bello, both from the Colorado Party.
The municipality's legal director, Jorge Sabaté, explained that the approval occurred after responses were presented to the observations previously made by councilors. He emphasized that the technical control of the statement is now the responsibility of the Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR), the body that will verify possible irregularities and refer any problems to the Public Ministry.
On the other hand, opposition councilor Álvaro Grau strongly criticized the decision, calling it a "whitewashing" of Nenecho Rodríguez's administration. He stated that the previous administration was the "darkest and most corrupt" in the history of the Municipality of Asunción, citing cases such as the diversion of G. 512 billion and the detergent overbilling scandal.
Grau argued that the law requires the full approval or rejection of the budget execution for a fiscal year, making it impossible to approve one part and reject another. He lamented that the Municipal Board, which should be the first control body, has become a "wolf for the city" by approving a statement from an administration with multiple corruption allegations.
