Aldair Ovelar, 35, known as Careca, was expelled from Paraguay and handed over to Brazil’s Federal Police at the border, according to 1000 Noticias. Its October 1 report updates morning accounts that announced his arrest in Capitán Bado, in the border department of Amambay, and described arrangements for his return as pending.
The report says Ovelar remained in the custody of Paraguay’s National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD) until the handover. The National Migration Directorate processed the administrative procedures in Pedro Juan Caballero, citing his irregular immigration status and judicial record. The action described was an administrative expulsion; the report does not describe extradition proceedings.
According to Agencia IP, citing Brazilian judicial documentation, Ovelar was subject to an active recapture order and had 40 years, three months and 22 days left to serve in a closed prison regime. The report links the conviction to drug trafficking, conspiracy to traffic drugs, criminal organisation and firearms offences. That period is presented as the remaining sentence, rather than the total length of his conviction.
Agents from SENAD’s regional unit in Pedro Juan Caballero carried out the arrest in coordination with Rossana Coronel, a prosecutor from Amambay’s specialised narcotics unit. They seized a Fiat Toro vehicle, a 9 mm Glock 17 pistol, three magazines, 45 rounds of ammunition, a phone and cash.
Agencia IP also reports that Ovelar was detained in Goiás, Brazil, in 2016 during an operation involving 11 tonnes of marijuana produced in Paraguay. SENAD describes him as linked to the Comando Vermelho criminal organisation, according to La Nación. That affiliation is the anti-drug agency’s characterisation, rather than an independent finding by the reports.
