A cell phone seized during a police search in San Lorenzo may contain data on money laundering operations carried out by convicted criminal Armando Javier Rotela Ayala, the top leader of the Rotela Clan. The device was thrown onto the roof by 29-year-old Águeda Lorena Miranda González, known as "Lore," during an operation conducted on Saturday by the National Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The operation is linked to the kidnapping of 37-year-old Alberto González Martínez, which occurred on Thursday night at a supermarket in the Mbocayaty neighborhood of Ñemby. The victim, who has a criminal record for drug trafficking and was previously identified as a major distributor for the Rotela Clan in the Central department, remains missing. He was taken by force by armed men in a white Toyota Auris.
Lore is the partner of Rotela Ayala, who is serving multiple sentences at the Martín Mendoza maximum-security prison in Emboscada. She had already been investigated in Operation Caolín in June 2025, which resulted in the arrest of relatives of the criminal leader on suspicion of money laundering. Authorities believe the seized phone may provide valuable information about the organization's financial flows, even if it does not contain direct data on the kidnapping.
