The Paraguayan play En penumbras premieres this Friday (May 22) at Casa Argentina in Asunción, an acid comedy that exposes the cracks in family bonds and the hypocrisies of social appearances. Written by playwright Santiago Filártiga Lamar and directed by Carlos Arbués, the play continues the universe begun in A la luz (2019), which drew over a thousand spectators across 15 performances.
The plot follows two pairs of in-laws who meet for a long-delayed dinner. "What initially seems like a cordial gathering slowly unravels amid reproaches, ironies, and old resentments that surface throughout the night," the synopsis describes. "The play builds an uncomfortable and deeply relatable portrait of family ties, social differences, and what often hides behind politeness and good manners."
The cast includes Regina Bachero, Calolo Rodríguez, Dani González, Chela Villagra, and Karina Otazú. Production is by E'Ana Productora, led by Elena Aquino, with assistant direction by Elenita Aquino and production assistance by Angie Pedrozo. Lighting design is by Santiago Schaerer, and makeup and wigs are by Inocência Fernández.
Performances take place Friday (May 22) and Saturday (May 23) at 9:00 p.m., and Sunday (May 24) at 8:00 p.m. Tickets can be reserved by calling 0991-166-694.
