Argentine playwright Guillermo Hermida teaches short theater workshop at TIA in Asunción

Argentine playwright, director and screenwriter Guillermo Hermida is in Asunción to lead a workshop on creating short works at the Taller Integral de Actuación (TIA), as part of the immersive cycle TIAtro en Corto. The initiative aims to stimulate new voices and theatrical formats, with text selection scheduled for May 29.

Argentine playwright, director and screenwriter Guillermo Hermida has arrived in Asunción to lead the Taller de Creación de Obras de Teatro Breves, a preparatory stage of the TIAtro en Corto cycle promoted by the Taller Integral de Actuación (TIA). The proposal is to offer a space for collective creation for playwrights, actors, students and emerging artists, focusing on short theatrical texts.

Hermida, recognized in contemporary independent theater, has screenwriting credits for Argentine productions such as Hombres de Honor (Polka Producciones), Los Únicos, Atracción x 4 (Ideas del Sur) and Alma Pirata (Cris Morena Group). His original work has toured stages in Argentina and Latin America, addressing human bonds and everyday conflicts.

TIAtro en Corto differs from the conventional format by proposing an immersive experience: the audience will move through different spaces of TIA, encountering multiple environments, genres and stories. The selected texts will be announced on May 29.

In addition to the workshop, the Paraguayan theater calendar includes other premieres. The duo Carola (Lali González) and Esther (Aldo Calabrese) returns with the third work of the show Verídicas, in a theater-bar format. The plot travels back to the sisters' adolescence in the 1990s and jumps to the present, when both receive unexpected news. Performances take place on May 26 and 27, and June 2, 3 and 4, at Rock 66 (Cruz del Defensor corner Alberto de Souza). Reservations by phone at 0982-398888.

At the Instituto Cultural Paraguayo-Alemán – Goethe-Zentrum, the play Hablemos a Calzón Quitado, directed by Juan Hannes Bürgin, returns to the stage on Saturdays May 16 and 23 and June 6, at 8 p.m. The production addresses the false images that society imposes on men, distancing them from their authenticity and primal impulses. The cast includes Yosué Ayala, Emilio Caballero and Elvio Torres. Tickets at G. 30,000 (or two tickets for G. 50,000).

Mujeres de Arena, a testimonial work based on real cases of femicide in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, will have a single performance this Friday, May 8, at 8:30 p.m., at Casa Sigilos (Unión Club, Palma 751, 1st floor). Written by Mexican Humberto Robles and directed by Paraguayan Nadia Capdevila, the play turns testimonies from mothers, daughters and activists into memory and resistance. Advance tickets at G. 50,000; at the door, G. 70,000.
