The Comptroller General's Office (CGR) of Paraguay has issued a report concluding that the asset growth of the former mayor of Asunción, Óscar "Nenecho" Rodríguez, is justified. The fiscal oversight body stated there is a "correspondence" between the declared assets and the legal income received by Rodríguez during his term.
The study analyzed the sworn statements of assets and income of the former municipal chief from November 2021, when he took office, to August 2025, the date of his resignation. According to the CGR, "Nenecho's" net worth increased from 118 million guaranis to approximately 259.4 million, an increase of about 141.4 million guaranis. During this period, he reportedly received more than 1.2 billion guaranis in income from his public function.
The favorable report emerges in a context of strong questioning of the former mayor's administration, who resigned amid the scandal of the 500 billion guaranis, which led to the intervention in the municipality. Rodríguez, linked to the *cartista* faction of the Colorado Party (ANR), was also charged in September 2024 for alleged breach of trust and criminal association in the case known as the "golden detergents" scandal.
The Comptroller General's document details that the justification for the increase in assets includes the settlement of credits worth 180.4 million guaranis. The current Comptroller General, Camilo Benítez Aldana, was the one who originally requested the intervention in the Asunción Municipality when Rodríguez was still in office.
