The National Gambling Commission (Conajzar) carried out search and seizure operations on Tuesday at two commercial establishments in Pedro Juan Caballero, Amambay department, as part of an investigation into illegal sports betting operations. The actions were carried out in coordination with the Public Prosecutor's Office and the National Police's Directorate against Economic and Financial Crimes, based on court warrants.
The locations operated under the name "SportsPy. Bet". During the procedures, CPUs, cabinets, mobile devices, printers, tickets, documents and other technological equipment were seized, which were used in the clandestine activity. All the material will be analyzed and will form part of the evidence in the criminal proceedings.
There is no deadline for the owners to present licensing documents, since operating sports betting requires express authorization from the state body, granted exclusively through a national public tender, in accordance with Law No. 1,016/97, amended and expanded by Law No. 7,438/2025, and its regulatory decree No. 3,846/2025. Any operation without Conajzar authorization is considered clandestine and may result in immediate seizure of assets, closure of the establishments, and criminal proceedings.
It is now up to the Public Prosecutor's Office to continue the investigation to determine the responsibilities of those involved, who may be charged with clandestine gambling operations and other offenses that may be identified.
