Luis Pettengill Eyes Presidency, Defends Congressional Experience as Asset

Colorado Senator Luis Pettengill, a pre-candidate for Paraguay's presidency, stated he has never questioned democracy and that his legislative career has prepared him to govern. He aims to end his term with public recognition.

Senator Luis Pettengill, a member of the Colorado Party and presidential aspirant, declared that he has never undermined Paraguay's democratic system. In an interview, he argued that his experience in Congress is essential for anyone seeking to lead the country.

“If I am a senator today, it is because the democratic process has changed. I probably would never have been a candidate for president without first going through Congress and understanding the laws and the political side of a government,” Pettengill said.

The legislator said his goal is not just to win the election, but to carry out an administration that yields positive results and is recognized by the public. “I want to be a very good president, and at the end of my term, I want people to applaud me,” he added.

Pettengill also recalled his tenure as president of Club Cerro Porteño, a football team from Caaguazú, and said that even more than 15 years after leaving the post, he still receives expressions of support from the club's fans. “People still recognize our management,” he said.

Now, according to him, the challenge is greater: “We are in another race, much bigger and more important, which is Paraguay.”
