The 19th Trial Court, presided over by Judge Rossana Maldonado, sentenced a man to 27 years in prison for child sexual abuse. The victim was his stepdaughter, who suffered abuse from the age of four in Asunción. Prosecutor Marcial Machado of the Public Prosecutor's Office presented all the necessary evidence to obtain the conviction.
According to the prosecution, the abuser subjected the minor to systematic and continuous sexual abuse since she was four years old, including intercourse in all forms. The crimes initially occurred in the house where the victim lived with her mother, the abuser, and her younger siblings. Later, between 2013 and 2017, the abuse continued in motels, as reported by the victim.
During the trial, the panel considered that the testimonial, documentary, and expert evidence demonstrated with complete certainty the accused's participation in the crime. Given the strength of the evidence presented, the judges decided to apply the maximum sentence of 27 years in prison.
The defense of the convicted man may appeal the decision. If that happens, an appeals court will decide whether the sentence is upheld.
