Colorado congressman Roberto González accused the Minister of Education, Luis Fernando Ramírez, of turning entry into the teaching profession into a "market of favors, arbitrariness, and privileges." The statement was made after the lawmaker gained access to documents from the Ministry of Education and Sciences (MEC) that he had been requesting for months, facing what he described as "endless barriers" from the Cartista faction.
González stated that while the minister publicly preaches that only the best should be at the head of classrooms, his administration appointed 916 interim teachers in the Capital, compared to only 798 teachers approved through competitive exams who are listed in the Eligible Database. He cited specific cases of alleged irregularities, such as that of professor Osvaldo Bogado, appointed to teach at the secondary level with a degree in Visual Arts, and that of teacher Ana Roa, assigned to teach English in basic education with a degree in Early Childhood Education. According to the congressman, neither possessed the required qualifications for the positions.
The lawmaker questioned who would have verified the professional qualifications and authorized these appointments, classifying the practice as a "state policy" that mocks the law and merit. He lamented that, amid the scandals of fake degrees, the ministry continues to favor "recommended individuals" over teachers who have gone through regular selection processes and are waiting in the Eligible Database.
